We provide the following services and features:
In our standard race format, each car races once on each lane. The best time from all four lanes is the car's final time. This is the fairest way to run the race, especially if some lanes are faster than others.
We are happy to emcee the race portion of the event, although some pack leaders choose to emcee the event themselves. During the race, lane assignments are displayed on a laptop and projector.
You can provide whatever awards and trophies you would like. We recommend awarding something to each participant. Recognition in Cub Scouts should be according to individual effort.
Our four-lane, all-pinewood track is 32 feet long and 4 feet high. Cars run along standard size guide strips that are 1-5/8" wide and 1/4" thick. Take care to remind participants not to glue weights to the underside of the car, as these could drag across the guide strips.
About 30 minutes before check-in, we will set up our track and timing system at your facility. You will need to provide tables and chairs.
Below are two example room layouts. You will need to leave an area of about 10' x 40' for the track.
Participants will need to check-in with us at the track prior to starting the race. During check-in, we weigh and photograph each car, and take down the participant's name and den. There is no need to assign numbers to the cars. Our leaderboard shows the name and picture of the cars that are up to race next.
A large projected leaderboard shows who is racing and who is up next. Our custom race management software creates the lane assignments and records the results automatically, so there is no fumbling around with spreadsheets.
During the race, a Google spreadsheet is updated with results automatically. Results are grouped by den. Parents and leaders can view the results using the provided URL or QR code.
When the cars are released from the gate, a timer with 4-microsecond resolution is started. When cars cross the finish line, they break an infrared beam. Our custom race management software records the time automatically.
